Merging the past and present at MSU
SUMMARY: Black Alumni Weekend at Mississippi State University is a four-day event designed to provide support for the university’s black alumni and raise awareness about the scholarship funds provided to students. The purpose is to connect the African American community with the greater alumni association, engage in the association, and mentor undergraduate students. Events such as a gala, luncheon, brunch, speaking panels, and community service activities were hosted. The initiative has seen significant growth and has allowed alumni to be more involved in various aspects of the university, providing opportunities to learn, mentor, and be involved in shaping the community. The weekend ended with a Gospel Brunch featuring artists and the Black Voices of MSU.

SUMMARY: A missing man, Kenneth Walters, 43, was found deceased in a wooded area near a gravel pit in Forrest County on October 2. According to Coroner Lisa Klem, no foul play is suspected in his death. Walters had last been seen on August 27 at Keith’s Superstore in Moselle, reportedly heading to work but never arriving. His last cellphone location was pinged on Morrow Road between Purvis and Hattiesburg. Family members had reported him missing after he failed to return home.

SUMMARY: Tropical Storm Milton is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday and potentially reach Category 3 strength by midweek, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph.
