USM baseball packs an economic wallop
SUMMARY: UM baseball will open its home season tonight, which is a big night for fans and the Hattiesburg economy. The team has 31 home games this season, and even a regular season game can bring upwards of $10 million in direct economic impact. Super regional tournaments in previous years have accounted for an economic impact of more than $3 million. These games are not only a big deal for fans but also contribute significantly to the local economy. Last year, Southern Miss hosted the Conference USA and NCAA regional and super regional baseball tournaments, which accounted for about $20 million in economic impact.
