The state of Alabama isn't expected to decrease the state's sales tax food
SUMMARY: Bad news for Alabama shoppers as the state is not expected to decrease its sales tax on food this year. The reduction in sales tax depends on growth requirements for the education trust fund, with an estimated 3.5% increase in total net receipts needed. However, there has been a decrease of almost 7% compared to the previous fiscal year. This decrease is attributed to a decline in consumer spending and expectations of lower wage increases and inflation figures. Overall, the state is not expected to lower the sales tax on food due to these factors.
