Parents of Jackson State student killed on campus sue university for wrongful death
SUMMARY: The parents of Flynn Brown, a 22-year-old student fatally shot on Jackson State's campus, are suing the university for wrongful death. They claim the university failed to protect their son despite being aware of his roommate Randall Smith's threatening behavior. Smith admitted to killing Brown in self-defense after an argument over doughnuts and attempted to clean up the crime scene. Brown's body was found in a car, shot in the back of the head from over two feet away. The Browns are seeking $500,000 for pain, suffering, and expenses related to their son's death.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
