Harrison County Sheriff’s Marine Operations keep beaches, boaters safe
SUMMARY: During the busy Labor Day holiday, law enforcement in Harrison County, including the Department of Marine Resources and the Sheriff’s office, are actively patrolling the area’s waters and 22 miles of beaches to ensure safety. With increased crowds, their focus is on boat safety, checking for adequate life jackets, flares, and fire extinguishers. Alcohol is often a contributing factor in boating accidents, and penalties can mirror those for driving under the influence. Common infractions include violations of glass container laws and overnight beach tent regulations. Patrols aim to foster positive interactions with families enjoying the water.
Keeping people safe is a tall order, and much of it is in the hands of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Marine Operations.
