Sharkey County reimbursed $1.9 million for tornado recovery
SUMMARY: Sharkey County has received over $1.9 million from FEMA to cover expenses from emergency protective measures after severe storms that included an EF-4 tornado and two EF-3 tornadoes on March 24, causing 22 fatalities. The funding, which reimburses costs from March 28 to April 22 of last year, will help with services such as temporary restrooms, showers, laundry, generators, and wastewater disposal. FEMA grants support debris removal, emergency actions, and facility restoration, with a 100 percent federal cost share authorized for a selected 30-day period within 120 days of the tornadoes.
