Pink Up: Columbia woman survives Stage 4 breast cancer
SUMMARY: Breast cancer affects almost 240,000 women every year in the United States. Less than 30% of women who reach the most advanced stage of cancer survive. Nicole Matis was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 33. After six rounds of chemotherapy, she received the news that her cancer was gone. Matis continues to do routine check-ups and take medication as preventative measures. Matis believes that God has given her this journey for a reason. This story was reported by Kyra Lampley WDAY7.

Career fair in Pontotoc lets students talk about their options
SUMMARY: Students in Pak County had the opportunity to explore post-high school options during the College and Career Fair at Gateway Pavilion, part of the Pat Talk Ridge Center and Technology Centers. Juniors and seniors interacted with representatives from professional schools and the military, as well as over 50 business professionals and college leaders. The event emphasized the importance of exposing students to local opportunities, especially during their critical decision-making years. More than 600 students participated, gaining valuable insights into their futures and the various paths available to them in Ponop County and surrounding areas.
Students in Pontotoc County got the chance to learn more about what’s out there for them after they graduate high school.

Online threats target Mississippi schools
SUMMARY: Several schools in the area, including Menen Hall and PVIS High School, went on lockdown due to fake online threats of violence. The Lamar County School District reported a post circulated using the initials “PHS,” causing panic. Meanwhile, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department found a similar threat linked to Menen Hall, both traced back to Texas. Authorities emphasized the importance of not sharing such threats and contacting school officials or law enforcement instead. Threateners could face up to 10 years in prison, particularly if over 17 years old. George County Schools also experienced similar hoaxes recently.

Absentee ballots available Sept. 23 in Mississippi
SUMMARY: Absentee voting in Mississippi has begun, with specific requirements for eligibility. Voters can cast absentee ballots if they are away, have a temporary or permanent disability, or are 65 years or older and unable to vote in person on the general election day, November 5th. To request an absentee ballot or verify eligibility, voters can visit their local circuit clerk’s office or make a phone call.
Absentee ballots are now available to Mississippi voters for the November general election.
