SUMMARY: Ford is recalling nearly 1.9 million Explorer SUVs in the U.S. due to a hazard where a trim piece can fly off and create a risk for other drivers. This recall is for Explorers from the 2011 through 2019 model years. U.S. regulators opened an investigation after receiving 164 consumer complaints, leading to documents that say the recall is necessary due to this safety hazard. Ford expects only 5% of the recalled Explorers to be affected and encourages owners to contact dealers for an inspection when parts are available. The company is aware of numerous consumer complaints and warranty reports, but is not aware of any crashes or injuries from the problem. Dealers will inspect trim pieces to ensure safety, with notifications to owners starting on March 13th.
