Project to replace Pearl River bridges in Marion County to begin soon
SUMMARY: A new project is set to begin which will replace two aging bridges over the Pearl River in Marion County. The bridges, built in the 1930s and 50 years ago, are set to be replaced to improve safety. The Mississippi Department of Transportation is overseeing the replacement of both the east and westbound bridges. The project will include closures and traffic reroutes, expected to be completed by 2026 and estimated to cost about $57 million. Mayor McKenzie advises motorists to be cautious and prepared for the construction work. Charles Herrington, the contractor, will oversee the work.
