Running on refuse: NIFA grant to fund MSU study of biomass-derived transportation fuel
SUMMARY: The Mississippi State University‘s Department of Sustainable Bioproducts is researching ways to produce viable fuels from agricultural waste to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Professor El Barbary Hassan and his team received a research grant to convert leftover biomass into useful chemical substances for fuels and other products. This renewable resource will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and is expected to provide up to 35-40% of global energy consumption in the next 50 years. The project aims to create more sustainable alternatives for transportation fuels, benefiting both the environment and the economy. Mississippi State University is committed to solving real-world problems and advancing renewable energy technology.

Biden’s student loan cancellation free to move forward as court order expires
SUMMARY: A Georgia judge allowed President Biden‘s student loan cancellation plan to proceed, dismissing the lawsuit from Georgia and transferring the case to Missouri. This plan, held up since September by legal challenges from seven Republican-led states, aims to forgive debt for approximately 30 million borrowers. The ruling enables the Education Department to finalize the cancellation process, potentially as soon as Friday. Missouri’s lawsuit claims that the cancellation will harm its student loan servicer, MOHELA, by affecting its revenue. Republican states argue the Department circumvented necessary waiting periods for implementing new rules.
