Weather impacting the Pine Belt in 2023
SUMMARY: In 2023, the Pine Belt experienced record-breaking heat, making it the hottest year ever with the impact of destructive weather in South Mississippi. The excessive heat was caused by high temperatures and damaging weather, leading to little to no rainfall. As a result, the humidity and high ocean temperatures further contributed to the severity of the heat. Overall, the weather trends are shifting towards increasingly warmer temperatures, and it is anticipated that this trend will continue into 2024. Therefore, there is a need to address the prolonged and excessive heat conditions.
It was one of the hottest years on record, not just for the Pine Belt. In fact, 2023 will go down as the hottest year ever recorded.
