Watson on ballot initiative process, campaign finance reform
SUMMARY: Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson has laid out his legislative priorities, including campaign finance reform, business regulation, and ballot initiative issues. He supports restoring the ballot initiative process in Mississippi, but is undecided on whether he would support a similar measure this year. Watson is pushing for a complete overhaul of the state’s current campaign finance system, including a new online filing system. The signature amount needed to place an issue on the ballot is a topic of intense debate. Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann also has a campaign finance reform plan in the works. The reform package will be costly, but Watson believes it is vital.
