Illnesses Going Around
SUMMARY: There has been an increase in flu cases, with 18,000 reported in Mississippi last week and a total of 50,000 in the last three weeks. The flu has been most common among people aged 6 to 24. It is expected to continue rising into February, but there are ways to reduce the risk of getting sick, such as washing hands and avoiding large crowds. The flu shot lessens the impact of the illness but doesn’t stop you from getting sick. If you feel sick, you should not go to work or send your kids to daycare or school to prevent spreading the illness. It is recommended to see a doctor if you experience any symptoms of the flu or other respiratory illness.

Brett Favre To Speak Before Congress
SUMMARY: Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre will appear before Congress on Tuesday to discuss welfare mismanagement amid an investigation into his involvement in Mississippi’s welfare scandal. Favre, invited by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Jason Smith, has faced scrutiny for accepting $1.1 million in speaking fees from welfare funds, repaying $1 million but still owing nearly $730,000 in interest. Although he is not charged criminally, Favre is part of a civil suit demanding the repayment of misappropriated TANF funds that were intended for a volleyball arena at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi.
