Biloxi man arrested after five-hour standoff
SUMMARY: Biloxi man Joshua Ivan Crawford was arrested after a five-hour standoff following a domestic altercation on December 31, 2023. He was charged with aggravated domestic assault, possession of prohibited weapons, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Bond was denied for the assault charge due to Crawford being out on felony bond at the time of the incident. He was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. Police dispatched to Woodland Hills Drive after a report of domestic-related altercation. Crawford barricaded himself inside before eventually surrendering. He was arrested without incident on January 1, 2024.

SUMMARY: Marvin Willoughby, a Memphis man, was convicted for the 2017 homicide of 28-year-old Freddie Mosley at the Mustang Motel in Jackson, Mississippi. The incident occurred on September 12, when police found Mosley dead at the scene. Investigators identified Willoughby as the shooter through surveillance footage. After a two-week manhunt across multiple states, he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Kansas. Authorities revealed he was also involved in human trafficking and prostitution, bringing women to Jackson for sex work. Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced the conviction.

SUMMARY: Harry Hylander pled guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of his grandmother, Sarah Hylander, 83, and uncle, David Hylander, 60, in Hinds County, Mississippi, in July 2021. Hinds County deputies found the victims during a welfare check and discovered they had been shot multiple times. Hylander later confessed to a family member about the killings and was arrested in Clinton. He was sentenced to life in prison for both counts, with the sentences running concurrently, and will serve his time in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

SUMMARY: A bridge on U.S. 80 over the Pearl River, at the Hinds/Rankin County line in Jackson, Mississippi, will be closed for several months starting December 2, 2024, due to deck replacement by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). The closure is expected to last until summer 2025. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, including I-20, I-55, State Street, and local roads. MDOT will install message boards to alert drivers about the upcoming closure.
