Mississippi officials encourage Thanksgiving cooking safety
SUMMARY: Emergency officials warn that frying frozen foods increases the risk of grease fires, particularly during the holiday season, which sees an uptick in cooking-related accidents. Rankin County Emergency Services highlights that improper cooking causes an average of five deaths, 60 injuries, and over $15 million in property damage annually. To prevent such incidents, ensure frozen turkeys are fully thawed before frying. Children should be kept away from the kitchen to avoid accidents. For minor burns, cool water treatment is recommended, while serious burns require immediate medical attention. Thanksgiving is notably the peak day for cooking fires.

Protest leads one lady to Aliceville prison
SUMMARY: Bevelyn Batty Williams faces 41 months in prison for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act during a pro-life protest outside Planned Parenthood in Manhattan in June 2020. Convicted in February 2023, she was accused of intimidating and obstructing individuals seeking reproductive health services, including physically blocking access and making threats. Her husband claims her comments were misunderstood as spiritual warfare rather than actual threats. Despite being found not guilty of conspiracy related to different clinics nationwide, her actions led to a harsher sentence, with prosecutors labeling her a “ring leader” in the protests.
