Travel expected to be busiest during New Year's Eve weekend

SUMMARY: Today is expected to be one of the busiest days at airports nationwide as holiday travelers return home. TSA is anticipating screening over 2.6 million people at airport security checkpoints. The FAA projects that Saturday will be the busiest day in terms of flights, with over 48,000 expected. Despite the ongoing pandemic, passenger volumes are only down 5% from the all-time air travel record set the Sunday after Thanksgiving. If traveling by road this New Year’s Eve, expect to see more state troopers out and MHP’s goal is to reduce crashes and prevent injuries by enforcing traffic laws and discouraging impaired or distracted driving. The new travel period starts on Saturday at 6 am and ends on Monday at midnight.

Travel is expected to be at its busiest during the New Year’s Eve weekend. The Mississippi Highway Patrol’s holiday enforcement period begins Saturday morning.

Each fire engine will be equipped with one of these cameras, which aids in identifying hot spots, preventing disorientation, and improving overall safety during operations. Training was recently conducted for 21 firefighters, who successfully used the cameras to extinguish a fire from a dryer lint build-up.
