Value of Mississippi agriculture remains high despite 2023 hardships
SUMMARY: Despite a 10% drop in farm production in Mississippi this year, it was still one of the state‘s best years, with soybeans being the largest row crop followed by corn and cotton. Overall, 2023 saw the state’s second highest agricultural production after 2022. Experts from Mississippi State University Extension service attribute this to drought conditions, hail storms, and market prices being the biggest issues for farmers this year.
Mississippi’s agriculture’s value of production fell 10.3% in 2023, according to Mississippi State University (MSU).
