USM's Innovation Park now a multisue space
SUMMARY: The Hattiesburg City Council passed an ordinance to re-zone USM’s Innovation and Commercialization Park from a residential area to a wide range of uses, potentially creating a positive economic impact for the city. The Mississippi Development Authority gave a $3.4 million grant towards clearing land and building access roads and extending water and sewer systems for future developments at the park. The development partnership president stated that the ordinance is the first step in making progress and ensuring that neighborhoods are protected. There is currently no set timeline for further developments at the park.

SUMMARY: New Albany Police identified the victim killed by a train as 19-year-old James Ward from Potts Camp. Chief Chris Robertson stated that Ward was taking a shortcut on the tracks while heading to a job interview when the incident occurred. His body was discovered approximately a quarter-mile from the Highland Street railroad crossing and Highway 15 overpass. Although the chief does not suspect foul play, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Saturday features SEC games, starting with Florida at Mississippi State in warm conditions. Sunday marks the first day of fall, but heat index values will still be high at 98°F. The tropics are being monitored for potential development in the Caribbean. Overall, expect lower 90s throughout next week with possible rain returning by Wednesday.
