SUMMARY: The final night of Hanukkah is approaching, and Beth Israel, Jackson’s only synagogue, is celebrating as it has for generations. The former rabbi, Paul Nussbaum, was a strong advocate for during the Jim Crow era and spoke out against the mistreatment of black people. In response to his activism, the Ku Klux Klan bombed the synagogue in 1967 followed by his home a few months later. Despite these threats, the rabbi refused to back down. Tomorrow, on the final night of Hanukkah, we look back at this rabbi’s contribution to the civil rights movement.

Beth Israel, Jackson’s only synagogue, has been a place of worship for decades, with a history of activism and resilience.

SUMMARY: In this ‘s “Ask John,” the question addressed is about the first day of autumn. John explains that autumn begins when the sun is directly over the equator, which occurs around September 22nd at 7:44 AM. The earth’s tilt at 23.5 degrees creates seasonal changes; without this tilt, we wouldn’t experience seasons. During autumn, days and nights are approximately equal in length. John emphasizes that understanding the sun’s position and the earth’s orbit helps explain why we have different seasons. Viewers are encouraged to submit questions for future segments.
