US House chair probes ballot shortages that hampered voting in Mississippi’s largest county
SUMMARY: Rep. Bryan Steil, chair of the Committee on House Administration, has sent a letter to the Hinds County Election Commission in Mississippi, expressing concern over ballot shortages during the November election. He warned that the shortages could undermine voter confidence and demanded information on steps to prevent such issues in the future. The county, a Democratic stronghold, faced chaos and confusion as up to nine precincts ran out of ballots, leading to long wait times. The election commissioners blamed errors in ordering ballots and insufficient training. Steil asked for steps to ensure no ballot shortages occur during the 2024 federal elections.
