The War Memorial Building in Jackson
SUMMARY: In downtown Jackson, a special art piece commemorates veterans, particularly highlighting a returning World War I soldier. The War Memorial building serves as a tribute to soldiers rather than war itself, featuring the Mississippi Unknown Soldiers Monument alongside sculptures by George Albert Rer. These bar reliefs, modeled after Ray Scott, depict the same soldier in various life stages, from combat to homecoming. Completed just before World War II, the building primarily honors earlier battles, with World War II references limited to the elevator panels. On Veterans Day, the Daily Sip expresses gratitude to veterans for their service.
