Jury deliberates fate of woman charged in fatal DUI crash
SUMMARY: A jury in Hinds County, Mississippi began deliberations in the case against Beth Ann White, who is accused of killing a mother and her infant son while driving under the influence. The jury couldn’t reach an agreement, despite the judge’s urging for them to continue to deliberate. White was indicted on four counts of aggravated DUI, and her blood alcohol content level was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the crash. The defense argued that the substances found in White’s blood were not controlled substances. If convicted, White could face up to 100 years in prison.

Daylight saving time: Does Mississippi want to stop changing the clocks?
SUMMARY: Daylight saving time (DST) ends on November 3, with many hoping it could be the last clock change. Despite numerous state and federal efforts to eliminate the biannual shift, progress has stalled. Many states seek to adopt permanent DST and have passed various resolutions, although they require congressional approval. States such as Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are among those pushing for year-round DST, while others like Idaho propose permanent standard time contingent on neighboring states’ actions. Recent legislative attempts have largely failed, with most states still set to adjust their clocks unless Congress intervenes.
