Dexter Wade autopsy results released
SUMMARY: Civil rights attorney Ben Crump shared preliminary findings from an autopsy on social media about a man, Dexter Wade, who was hit and killed by an off duty officer in a patrol car. The autopsy revealed multiple blunt force injuries to the skull, ribs, and pelvis, as well as an amputated leg. Wade’s body was not embalmed and his wallet was found with his state ID, credit card, and health insurance card. The officer knew Wade’s identity as it was on the accident report and he had medication with his next of kin’s information. The full autopsy results are expected to be released soon.

Perry County School District sees rank bump up a grade
SUMMARY: The County School District improved from a C to a B rating according to the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program results. Federal funding to help Lamar, Perry counties bolster law enforcement staffs
SUMMARY: New federal grants are enabling Lamar and Perry counties in the Pine Belt to hire additional law enforcement officers. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office will employ four new deputies, funded by a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Justice Department, aimed at enhancing response times for service calls. Perry County will use a $250,000 grant to hire two deputies, addressing the challenges of its large, rural landscape. Both counties are required to contribute matching funds—38% for Lamar and 32% for Perry. Montgomery County also received a grant for one additional officer at nearly $97,000.
