‘Never happens again’: Hinds Co. officials looking into Tuesday’s election mishaps
SUMMARY: Thousands of voters in Hinds County, Mississippi experienced long lines and wait times after polling places ran out of paper ballots during the governor’s race. Election officials are investigating the cause of the shortage, with a potential factor being the redistricting that resulted in split precincts. Some poll workers reported finding missing ballots later on. Circuit Clerk Zack Wallace noted that the high turnout and the need to print additional ballots caused logistical challenges. State statute requires officials to have enough ballots for 60% of registered voters, but Hinds County ordered enough for 70%. The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office does not have the authority to investigate election issues.
