Mississippi general election 2023: What to know before heading to the polls
SUMMARY: Mississippi’s General Election Day is approaching, and Secretary of State Michael Watson has provided reminders for voters. The deadline for in-person absentee voting is November 4, while mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 7 and received by November 15. Voters who cast an affidavit ballot due to voter ID requirements must present an acceptable form of photo ID by November 15. Voters are required to show photo identification at the polls, but those without acceptable ID can cast an affidavit ballot. Campaigning within 150 feet of a polling place entrance is prohibited. Camera phones are not allowed inside polling places. As of Monday, 36,000 absentee ballots have been requested in Mississippi. In-person voting will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and voters in line at closing time are entitled to cast a ballot. Problems at the polls will be referred to the authorities for investigation. The My Election Day resource provides personalized election information and tracking for absentee and affidavit ballots.
