Nearly 36,000 absentee ballots requested for Mississippi’s general election

SUMMARY: With just over a until Mississippi’s general election, nearly 36,000 absentee ballots have been requested, according to the Statewide Election Management System (SEMS). Out of those requested, 28,379 have already been filled out and received. It is important to note that the number of requested ballots is not a direct reflection of the number of completed ballots that will be counted. Currently, the secretary of ‘s office is reminding that county circuit clerks are still processing requests for absentee ballots, which may cause a discrepancy in the numbers. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 7 and received within five business days in order to count.
