37 people connected to a deadly prison-based Mississippi gang have been convicted, prosecutors say
SUMMARY: All 37 individuals involved with a prison-based gang in Mississippi that sold drugs and committed violent crimes have been convicted, according to federal prosecutors. The gang, known as the Simon City Royals, operated within and outside of Mississippi prisons. The individuals faced charges related to murder, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, money laundering, and more. The crimes committed by gang members included a murder in a Mississippi prison in 2018. The convictions came as a result of a racketeering indictment, with most of the suspects being indicted in February 2022. The final conviction was a guilty plea in federal court in Oxford.

SUMMARY: Nearly two years after Dexter Wade’s death, his family continues seeking justice. On November 20, Dexter Wade Day was observed in Jackson, declared by Councilman Kenneth Stokes. Wade, hit by a Jackson police cruiser in March 2023, was later found in a pauper’s grave in Hinds County, and his mother, Bettersten Wade, was unaware of his death until August 2023. She believes his death was covered up. No arrests have been made, and authorities consider it an accident. SUMMARY: A man was shot in Jackson, Mississippi, while attempting to assist a person with a stalled vehicle on State Street at Beasley Road around 4:00 p.m. on November 20. Detective Tommie Brown reported that the victim was working on the vehicle when the suspect approached, questioned him, and then opened fire. The assailant fled the scene in a vehicle. Fortunately, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The Jackson Police Department is seeking information about the incident and encourages anyone with details to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

SUMMARY: Jackson police are investigating a burglary at the Fleetwood gas station on Watkins Drive that occurred between 1:00 a.m. and 1:32 a.m. on November 20. Three suspects used a sledgehammer to break into the store, where they stole tobacco products before fleeing in a silver van. Detective Tommie Brown reported the damage caused by their actions involved breaking holes into the back of the business. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the crime to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
