Church members in Gulfport use telescope to see eclipse
SUMMARY: Amber Spradley, a former Gulfport pastor and long-time astronomer, set up his telescope outside St. Matthew Lutheran Church to allow congregation members and others to view the rare “ring of fire” solar eclipse. Some people saw the eclipse through the leaves of a tree, while others had clear skies. There are plans for another total solar eclipse in April, and there may be some cloud cover moving into southern Mississippi. Temperatures tomorrow are expected to be cooler, with highs struggling to reach the 70s.
One church member in Gulfport gave his fellow congregants a chance to safely enjoy looking at the partial eclipse Saturday afternoon.
