High national interest rates take a toll on Coast realtors, home hunters
SUMMARY: Traffic is moving along County Farm Road in Harrison County, and there are no issues. However, high interest rates are taking a toll on home hunters, making it harder for them to find and purchase a home. Gerard Mauer, president of the Mississippi Realtors, says that interest rates have risen to over 7%, which affects the purchase price and monthly payments. He expects interest rates to stay steady through 2024. This has led to a decrease in coastal sales and a lack of inventory. Mauer hopes that the rates will stabilize and more people will be able to buy and sell property.
