City of Hattiesburg receives grant to improve river access
SUMMARY: The city of Hattiesburg in Mississippi has received a $480,000 grant to improve access to the Leaf River for boaters and kayakers. The project, spearheaded by the Piney Cones Conservation Group, includes renovations to a boat ramp and the creation of a designated launch area for canoes and kayaks. The goal is to make it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy outdoor recreation activities on the river. The project is expected to be completed in a year and a half and is part of the city’s overall plan to invest in conservation and outdoor recreation.
The city applied for the grant in 2022 and was one of 21 cities to receive it. The project is expected to be completed in 2025.
