SUMMARY: Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes is introducing an honorary ordinance to rename a portion of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in honor of his late wife, Judge Larita Cooper Stokes. Larita Cooper Stokes was the first black Hinds County female judge and also the first black Hinds County female chief in the county court system. Kenneth Stokes believes that renaming the street will serve as an inspiration to young people, showing them that they can be successful regardless of their location or background. The event will take place on October 10th at 10 am at the Mississippi State Fire Academy’s campus.
