Over $200K approved for chronic wasting disease surveillance in Mississippi
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) will receive over $200,000 in funding for chronic wasting disease (CWD) surveillance. The funds are provided through a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The grant will support a project to improve the understanding of CWD and develop better testing protocols. The MDWFP’s CWD program aims to increase hunter participation in monitoring and protecting the state‘s deer population. This funding will help detect CWD in deer populations earlier and protect the hunting and outdoor tourism industry in Mississippi.

Mississippi teen murder suspect appears to fall asleep in court
SUMMARY: Carly Madison Gregg, a Mississippi teenager, is on trial for murdering her mother and attempting to kill her stepfather at 14. During the defense’s presentation, Gregg appeared to fall asleep in court amidst witness testimonies. The trial focuses on her mental state rather than the fact of the murder. Expert testimony indicated Gregg suffers from Bipolar II Disorder, and her medication changes might have affected her mental stability. However, conflicting evidence from home security footage suggests she was calm after the incident. Gregg will not testify, and the trial continues with intensifying arguments from both sides.
