Against advice of board attorney and feds, David Archie reveals how much Hinds County paid hackers after cyberattack
SUMMARY: Hinds County Supervisor David Archie disclosed that officials paid hackers more than $250,000 to $300,000 following a cyberattack that impacted county services for several weeks. The payment was made against the advice of the board’s attorney and federal investigators. During a public meeting, four supervisors approved over $400,000 to a company to repair the damage to the county’s computer systems. Archie criticized the lack of transparency regarding the payment and questioned the contract and specific usage of the funds. Board President Vern Gavin disagreed with Archie’s disclosures, citing the risk of future attacks and compromised negotiations. Archie also expressed concerns about the allocation of $6 million for various projects, alleging potential benefits for certain supervisors.

How Isaac Smith became MSU’s top defender
SUMMARY: Isaac Smith, a safety for Mississippi State, emerged as a football standout at Itawamba Agricultural High School, attracting Division I offers. Coming from an athletic family, with his father playing at Ole Miss, Isaac’s first offer also came from there. However, he felt a strong connection with Mississippi State and its late coach Mike Leach, who he admired for his kindness, including attending a game when Isaac wasn’t playing. Following Leach’s unexpected passing, Isaac sought guidance through prayer and ultimately chose Mississippi State, feeling called to be there. Today, he remains committed, regardless of coaching changes.
