More SNAP changes coming Oct. 1

SUMMARY: Starting in October, SNAP will increase, but eligibility requirements will also change. As a result of the Fiscal Responsibility Act signed by , able-bodied adults without dependents (aged 52-54) will need to prove they are actively working, , or in school to qualify for SNAP benefits. Previously, this requirement only applied to individuals aged 18-52. There are exemptions to the work requirements, such as homeless individuals, , and youth who aged out of foster care. Those who fail to meet the work requirements will only be eligible for SNAP benefits for three months in a three-year period. Additionally, most SNAP recipients will larger benefit amounts in October due to a cost-of-living adjustment.
