Hattiesburg man arrested in connection to Smith County bomb threat
SUMMARY: A Hattiesburg man, Tobias Smith, 27, is in custody for a bomb threat sent via text to a Smith County business, leading to the evacuation of employees at Georgia Pacific Plywood near Taylorville. The Highway Patrol used bomb dogs to search the site before employees could return. Smith faces one count of terrorist threats and is currently held at Smith County Jail, awaiting his bond hearing.

Fire contained quickly in Lamar County Friday
SUMMARY: A house fire occurred near Baxterville in Lamar County amidst thunderstorms in the Pine Belt area. Officials do not suspect foul play and believe a lightning strike may have caused the fire. This assumption is based on homeowner reports and continuous lightning strikes during firefighting efforts. Firefighters managed to quickly contain the blaze, resulting in minimal visible damage to the exterior of the home. No injuries were reported.
