Monday night’s $785M Powerball jackpot is 9th largest lottery prize. Odds of winning are miserable
SUMMARY: Tonight, the ninth-largest lottery jackpot, worth $785 million, will be up for grabs in the Powerball drawing. The prize has grown so large due to it rolling over for 28 consecutive drawings without a big winner. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, which is why the top prizes end up being so large. However, the advertised prize is for winners who opt for an annuity paid over 30 years. The cash payout for tonight’s drawing would be $367 million. The jackpot would also be subject to federal taxes and state taxes in some cases.
