Auditor’s office recovers $5 million from prison management company

SUMMARY: Management & Training Corporation (MTC), a private prison company, has paid back over $5 million to the state of Mississippi. The State Auditor’s Office began investigating MTC in 2021 after allegations that staff was not being provided to contracted prisons. The investigation found that MTC failed to provide the minimum mandatory staff to ensure the safety of inmates and prison employees but still received full payment from the state. State Auditor Shad White demanded that MTC pay $1.9 million based on an analysis of one prison, and MTC voluntarily paid over $5.125 million in response. The auditor’s office will continue to investigate MTC to ensure the full amount owed is paid.

Long Beach amends lease to begin process for developing casino

Mississippi College, Delta State players earn postseason football honors
