SUMMARY: Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, has tightened security measures after a tragic incident occurred in which an elderly man attempted to end both his and his wife’s lives. Gunshots were heard coming from different patient rooms on the 6th floor around 2 am. Capitol Police and Baptist Police staff responded to the scene, and the hospital was put on lockdown. It was found that the 90-year-old husband had shot his 92-year-old wife in the head before attempting to take his own life. The wife survived and was rushed to a nearby hospital. There were no metal detectors at the facility, but the hospital has an onsite police force and security cameras. Baptist Hospital expressed shock over the incident and stated that none of their staff or other patients were harmed. Capitol Police acknowledged the devastating scene, which is likely to have a lasting impact.

MUW partners with hospital for new nursing program

This program allows Registered Nursing students to work alongside professionals, becoming student nurse residents.
