Former Hancock County deputy sentenced to 30 years for producing child pornography
SUMMARY: Former Hancock County deputy Derrick Patrick Flanagan has been sentenced to serve 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography. Flanagan was identified in February 2022 in an investigation conducted by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office Cyber Crime Division and the FBI. Law enforcement received two CyberTip Reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that were linked to Flanagan. Forensic examinations of his laptop and cellular phones uncovered numerous visual depictions of child sexual abuse material and over 40,000 lines of chats sent over social media. Flanagan pleaded guilty to the charges in April and has been ordered to pay fines.

SUMMARY: Mississippi artists aged 21 and older have the chance to win $2,000 and be spotlighted at the state's largest art festival through the Blue Moon Art Project contest. Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
