Mississippi judge declares mistrial for 2 white men charged in attack on Black FedEx driver
SUMMARY: A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a white father and son who were accused of shooting at a black FedEx driver. The trial was cancelled on the third day as Judge David Strong found errors committed by a detective from the Brookhaven Police Department. The detective failed to present evidence to both the prosecution and defense teams and also gave improper testimony regarding guns and gunshell casings found at the defendant’s home. This decision comes after Brandon Case and his father Gregory faced charges of attempted murder and conspiracy in the January 2022 incident.

Laurel adding 2 used fire trucks to fleet
SUMMARY: The Laurel Fire Department is adding two fire trucks to its fleet, one for Engine 6 and another for the reserve fleet, each costing approximately $50,000. The city council approved the purchase following the recent fire damage to Engine 6’s truck. Although the insurance settlement did not cover a new truck, it allowed for the acquisition of two used trucks in excellent condition. The mayor confirmed that they already possess the titles for the trucks, which are expected to be shipped soon.
