SUMMARY: The Starkville Police Department in Mississippi has added digital surveillance cameras throughout the city, which have been effective in solving major crimes. Police Chief Mark Balor stated that the cameras have served as witnesses and their ability to replay footage in front of a jury and judge has increased their reliability. Local business owners and residents have expressed gratitude for the extra security the cameras provide. Through a system called Connect Starkville, residents can register their home cameras and doorbells, allowing police to access footage in the event of a crime. As of now, there are 473 registered cameras and 356 integrated cameras in Starkville.
