Extreme heat can take a toll on your mental health
SUMMARY: Sunday marked the hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching 105 degrees in Jackson. The extreme heat can have negative effects on both physical and mental health. Doctors explain that the high temperatures can make it difficult for individuals to deal with stressors and emotions. Sleep patterns can also be disrupted, leading to irritability, anxiety, anger, and low mood. Those with pre-existing conditions such as depression or anxiety may be particularly affected. Additionally, medications may be less effective in regulating body temperature, posing a greater risk for those with conditions like schizophrenia. It is important to be aware of these effects and find healthy outlets to manage stress during this temporary period of intense heat.
