Former Rankin Co. deputies accused of torturing 2 Black men arraigned
SUMMARY: Six Rankin County deputies, along with Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Terrell Parker, appeared in court for their alleged involvement in the beating, torturing, and sexual assault of two Black men. The deputies have waived their right to a trial by a grand jury and no bond has been set. The incident occurred on January 24, 2023, when the deputies entered the Braxton residence without a warrant. The men were handcuffed and subjected to tasers, gunshots, waterboarding, and sexual assault. Jenkins and Parker are seeking $400 million in damages and are accusing the deputies of various crimes, including attempted murder. Four of the deputies have been identified, including one off-duty officer from the Richland Police Department. The deputies have been terminated from their positions, and the department is working to restore public trust. Previous allegations of excessive force by some of the deputies have also been reported. No body camera or dashcam footage is available for the January 24 incident.
