AG Fitch says she’s following Supreme Court’s ruling on tidelands leases

Watson has accused Fitch of costing taxpayers unnecessary funds and has hired a private firm for $75,000 to prosecute entities violating tidelands leasing laws.

SUMMARY: Elio Gonzalez Fombellida, 78, was arrested in Gulfport after striking a pedestrian who later died and collided with three vehicles. The incident occurred around 5:42 p.m. on Highway 49, where police discovered Fombellida in his car after he fled the scene of an earlier crash involving a UPS truck. He was apprehended without further incident. Authorities found cocaine in his possession, which he claimed belonged to a friend. Initially charged with leaving the scene of an accident and drug possession, Fombellida’s charges are expected to escalate following the pedestrian’s death. He is currently held on a $300,000 bond.
