Former MSU coach and Hall of Famer passes away
SUMMARY: Nikki McCray Pinson, former Mississippi State women’s basketball coach, has passed away at the age of 51. McCray Pinson, a Tennessee Volunteers and WNBA star, came to Mississippi State for her second head coaching job after coaching at MSU for one season. She had a successful coaching career, with stints at ODU and South Carolina, where she helped the Gamecocks win a national title in 2017. McCray Pinson led MSU to a 10-9 record during the COVID-19 season before stepping down in October 2021 to focus on her health. She returned to coaching last year as an assistant at Rutgers and was a breast cancer survivor. McCray Pinson is survived by her husband and son.
Nikki McCray-Penson passed away on Friday. The Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer, WNBA All-Star and former Mississippi State coach was just 51 years old. She came to MSU after leading Old Dominion to multiple 20 win seasons. In Starkville she led the Bulldogs to a 10-9 record during the pandemic shortened season but she recruited Jerkaila Jordan and Debreasha Powe in 2021 and they play vital roles at MSU today. McCray-Penson, an Olympic gold medalist, was a breast cancer survivor as well after being diagnosed in 2013. She leaves behind a husband and son Thomas and Thomas Jr.

Interview: NMHS hosting Christmas toy drive

Crimson and Cream Classic Soiree Brunch

Children's author showcases work in Ridgeland
