Accountant pleads guilty in Mississippi welfare embezzlement case, is working with prosecutors
SUMMARY: In a case involving embezzlement and fraudulent statements, accountant Ann McGrew has pleaded guilty and is now cooperating with prosecutors. McGrew, who was the head financial officer for Mississippi Community Education Center, is an important witness due to her direct knowledge of the funds directed to various sources. Along with Nancy New, the owner of the center, her son Zach New, and others, McGrew was indicted in February 2020 for an alleged scheme to embezzle $4.15 million from a federal program for the poor.
