Lowndes County deputies make arrests on drug trafficking charges

SUMMARY: Lowndes County deputies in Mississippi went to a home to serve a warrant on a suspect, but ended up arresting two other individuals for different charges. When they arrived, they found two men smoking marijuana in the living room. A subsequent search of the home yielded six pounds of marijuana, 10 grams of meth, an AK rifle, and over $2,000 in cash. The suspects, Demontrell Rontavis Lowe and Roytavius Brunson, were charged with trafficking marijuana and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute while in possession of a firearm. Brunson also faces charges for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Lowe was already out on bond for previous gun and drug charges. The Sheriff’s Office is seeking to deny bond for the new charges.

Man shot while helping with stalled vehicle in Jackson

SUMMARY: A man was shot in Jackson, Mississippi, while attempting to assist a person with a stalled vehicle on State Street at Beasley Road around 4:00 p.m. on November 20. Detective Tommie Brown reported that the victim was working on the vehicle when the suspect approached, questioned him, and then opened fire. The assailant fled the scene in a vehicle. Fortunately, the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
