Here’s how the Hollywood writers strike is affecting Mississippi

SUMMARY: The Writers Guild of America strike, which began nearly 50 days ago, has affected the production of TV and film nationwide. While some productions in Mississippi are on hold, others are moving forward due to locked script statuses. Film production in the state, which reached historical highs in 2022, has not been as impacted as California. Still, the situation could change if the actors' strike authorized for July 1st goes into effect. Unscripted content, such as the show “Hometown,” has not been impacted by the strike. No agreement is expected until August at the earliest.

Participants are required to submit a contemporary, museum-quality canvas (24″ x 36″) without beer bottles or text, inspired by the Blue Moon beer brand. Applications can be downloaded from the Peter Anderson Festival website and must be submitted with the artwork by October 4 at the Ocean Springs Chamber Main Street offices. The Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival will occur in downtown Ocean Springs on November 2-3.

Mississippi earns Silver Shovel Award for recent economic development projects

Murder suspect arrested following manhunt in Harrison County

SUMMARY: A manhunt in Harrison County concluded with the arrest of Bricen John Rivers, charged with one count of murder. Deputies responded to Wolf River Cemetery, where they found Rivers running into the woods. A deceased woman, 22-year-old Lauren Johansen of Gulfport, was found in the vehicle Rivers fled from. Johansen, reported missing July 2, attended school in Hattiesburg. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the search, ultimately locating Rivers and arresting him. He is held at Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $1 million bond.
