Biloxi man who killed Waffle House employee over cigarette sentenced to life
SUMMARY: A Biloxi man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for shooting and killing a Waffle House waitress on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Johnny Mount, 52, was found guilty of killing Julie Brightwell in November 2015 after she reportedly told him not to smoke a cigarette inside the restaurant. Mount, a former Biloxi firefighter who stepped down after suffering a brain injury from a vehicle accident in 2002, became enraged with Brightwell after the comment she made and shot the waitress in the head.

Christmas by Candlelight Tour returns to Jackson on December 6

Kemper County woman locked up for recording sexual encounter with minor
SUMMARY: Adreoinna Latoria Hickman, a woman from east Mississippi, has been arrested following a four-year investigation into sex crimes against a child. The Kemper County Sheriff’s Department began investigating her in October 2020 on charges of sexual battery and child pornography. Authorities struggled to find evidence until the FBI located a video of Hickman engaging in illicit acts with a minor and distributing it via social media. After being questioned, Hickman confessed to the crimes, claiming she sought payment but was never compensated. She was placed in jail with a $500,000 bond and is set to appear in court on March 17, 2025.
