USM Special Collections to host events Celebrating 100th Birthday of Will Campbell
SUMMARY:
The Mississippi Humanities Council has awarded a grant to The University of Southern Mississippi Libraries Special Collections to celebrate the life of author and preacher Will D. Campbell on his 100th birthday. Public events include a discussion on his memoir, Brother to a Dragonfly, a lecture by Brett Harris on Campbell’s themes of community, and an exhibit featuring Campbell’s papers and contributions to the Civil Rights movement. The discussion is scheduled for October 22, with the lecture on November 4, both free and open to the public, fostering dialogue and understanding of the human experience.

WCU wins awards at 2024 MSHIMA Conference
SUMMARY: William Carey University‘s Health Information Management program excelled at the 2024 MSHIMA Conference, winning three prestigious awards. Dr. Alicia Watts received the Educator Award for her outstanding teaching, while graduates Devoskiea Poole and Mallory Pennington were honored with the Rising Star and Mentor Awards, respectively. Poole, who holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from WCU, is recognized for his promise in the HIM field, currently contributing to Forrest General Hospital. Pennington, a WCU alumna, works at Itawamba Community College and actively supports MSHIMA. The conference celebrated significant achievements in health information management across Mississippi.
